This paper describes the efforts of the Behavioral Science Department of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine to develop a comprehensive program for reducing student stress. Components of this program include the school's overall orientation, the student advising and counseling system, and student-oriented programs and courses. The concept of stress management provides a useful framework for guiding the development of such programs and is relevant to both dentistry and dental education.
