The newest edition of Wilkinss Clinical Practice of the Dental Hygienist continues to provide a comprehensive outline of the principles and practices of dental hygiene care. The book has long been considered a "must-have" for the dental hygiene educator, and this newest edition is no exception. With the addition of new chapters on dental caries, pediatric oral health care, family abuse and neglect, and the patient with a respiratory disease, as well as extensive revisions to other chapters, the book is broad in scope. In addition to the very helpful "Factors to Teach the Patient" section at the end of each chapter, "Everyday Ethics" has been added, with examples of ethical dilemmas that occur in daily practice.
One of the greatest strengths of the text is its no-nonsense outline form. This structure allows quick review of material for pertinent facts, appeals to the time-conscious reader, and provides large quantities of information without excessive prose. Excellent organization includes concise tables, key words, and helpful illustrations. This easy-to-follow format reflects the high professional standards we have come to expect from Dr. Wilkins.
A wonderful all-around reference book for the dental hygienist, this textbook provides a solid knowledge base for the practice of dental hygiene today. Chapter contributors are well-respected experts in their fields who add breadth and depth to the scope of the book. This edition offers a student workbook and an instructors website that provide additional resources for the busy academic. It would be hard to imagine a well-rounded dental hygiene library without this book.
