Greetings and Overview |
|
Dear ADEA Members and Friends:
Well, this has certainly been a year like no other for me! Who could have anticipated, when I became ADEA President at last years Annual Session in Baltimore, that I would at this moment be working from Baton Rouge at the temporary headquarters of the LSU Dental School? Indeed, who could have imagined Hurricane Katrinas destruction of significant parts of my hometown of New Orleans and the damage to our school that required our rapid evacuation and damaged the lives and property of so many of our faculty, staff, and students? But if the damage was great, the response from both our own folks and the entire dental education community was even greater. All of us at the school will be eternally grateful to you for your generous donations, your overwhelming offers of support, and your thoughts and prayers. I will be pleased to thank you in person in Orlando in March.
This first-ever Joint Annual Session with ADEA and the American Association of Dental Research (AADR) has been eagerly anticipated by our officers, Annual Session Planning Committee, and staff, and now I am pleased to officially invite you to attend ADEAs 83rd Annual Session and Exhibition, to be held March 811, 2006, in the Swan and Dolphin properties at Walt Disney World. This joint session with its theme of "Education and Research Together" provides a historic opportunity for educators and researchers to acknowledge and explore the interdependence of these two vital aspects of academic dentistry. You will have a rich variety of educational programs from which to choose, as well as multiple opportunities for networking, sharing information and ideas about your particular area of interest, and having some fun as well. I urge you to plan your schedule to take full advantage of this unique event in dental education.
We look forward to seeing you in Orlando!

Dear ADEA Members and Friends:
On behalf of the Annual Session Planning Committee, I am delighted to join President Hovland in inviting you to ADEAs 83rd Annual Session and Exhibition. All of us on the committee are excited about this historic Annual Session, held jointly for the first time with the American Association for Dental Research (AADR), and we look forward to seeing you there.
The programmatic and logistical challenges of organizing such a large joint meeting, while at the same time preserving the distinctive traditions of each organization, have indeed been daunting, but we believe the resulting program will provide you with an experience that you will find stimulating and enjoyable. The unique nature of the meeting this year has resulted in new opportunities for interaction with our research colleagues. We hope that the changes to our usual programs (Symposia, Lunch and Learns, Faculty Development Workshops, and Section and SIG programs) will provide you with a variety of sessions that capture current topics and issues relevant to research and education.
These pages will give you an overview of ADEA programming, as well as some of the joint activities. Youll find not only numerous educational programs on a wide variety of topics, but such perennial favorites as the Exhibit Hall, TechExpo, Regional Predental Advisors Workshop, Signature Series, Poster Presentations, and the Evening Plenary on Gender Issues, as well as governance activities such as meetings of ADEAs seven Councils and the House of Delegates.
Registration is now open by visiting www.ADEA.org. We urge you to make your plans now to join us in Orlando in March.
